Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas Empty Re: Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas

Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas Empty Re: Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas

INFERNAL EXALTATION - the Essence (pre-Exaltation)
How do the Yozis keep hold of the shards and prevent them from going back to Lytek's cabinet after death? Is there some kind of Monstrance equivalent for Infernals?
The Ebon Dragon slithered a piece of himself out of Malfea and took a twelve year old virgin girl into his mouth and drug her back with him. There was transformed into a living vessel for the Infernal essences with a "pull string" attached to them to call them back to her upon the death of an Infernal. The "Phylactery-womb" as she's referred to is now a grotesque bloated creature, ridden my demonic diseases and worse things. If you watch you can see the essences swimming inside her as they come up close to the surface of her skin. In order to pull out an essence a demon is implanted into her, grabs a shard and is regurgitated, born, or shat back into existence to take the shard to the potential-infernal.

And she makes a great target for somebody wanting to free the Infernal shards from the bonds of the Yozi, they'd still be corrupted, but they would seek out heroes of destiny according to their original programming.

While my summary may not do it justice, its established than an exaltation needs either a living host or Lyteks cabinet. While the Neverborn were able to forge the Monstrances the Yozi went organic. And like all things the Yozi touch, its a terrible terrible thing.

The Phylactery-womb isn't Exalted because while the shards are in her, they aren't bound to her soul, same with the demon vessels.

Her name is Lillun? Her mother is the one who sold her to the Yozi's? I mentioned the helltaint and flesh ridden with untold numbers of diseases. Things That Dwell in Corners occasionally emerge from her and skitter out into the darkness. The Infernal shards can bubble to the surface and leave her glowing like some warped toad that swallowed too many fireflies. The really creepy thing about Lillun...is that she's introduced to the Infernals to be loved and respected and treated very very well, and you have to wonder if perhaps twisting her into something vaguely resembling themselves is considered a sign of affection by the Yozis as well as a practical design for a shard container.

Have you ever read Aspect Book: Earth?
And ah, Lillun was the youngest daughter of the Scarlet Empress, I'd kinda assumed that but didn't think it was supposed to be that blatant. THAT'S THE EMPRESS'S DAUGHTER! MNEMON'S LITTLE SISTER! OMGWTFBBQ OF DOOM!

Does this mean the Ebon Dragon has control over which Yozis get shards to use? If he has a spat with Malfeas can he say "Sorry, bro, no Exaltations for you until you appologize."?

The five Yozi each have control of 10 Infernal Essences, and given the tenuous nature of the agreement, its generally a "ask politely if that's a good idea" rather than tell each other what to do, with the Ebon Dragon being the main planner and a slithering little manipulator.

There are no rules presented on a Solar becoming an Infernal that I noticed. I'd imagine they'd need access to the shard and that would require killing said Solar. Solar's can of course become Akuma and if you could convince a Yozi to give you all the Infernal power access without the limitations placed on Akuma or Infernal shards then it'd probably amount to the same thing....

INFERNAL EXALTATION - the Process
The Yozi takes the shard, embeds it within a 1st circle demon, and sends the demon up to find the prospective candidate. The demon waits for the moment of destiny, and then waits for the mortal to fail. Once the mortal has failed, the demon approaches, and the Yozi begins to tempt them. It's a battle of wills, and the thing is that the mortal must freely choose to Exalt. The Yozi can't force them to take the Exaltation in any way. If they refuse, then the demon slays them, and the Yozi tries again. But if they accept....

The demon's body comes undone and absorbs the mortal, creating what is known as the Chrysalis Grotesque. The process of brainwashing training the new Exalt takes 5 days, or just 1 during Calibration. Nothing can damage this Chrysalis, but Yozi cultists usually will help spirit it away to a safer locale.

Once the process is complete, the Chrysalis shatters violently, and the Infernal emerges, bearing some minor trait of the demon that they were absorbed by. But there is also a little voice in their head -- some remnant of the demon, constantly advising and/or guiding the Infernal, or even inflicting Torment when the Green Sun Prince goes too far. It is called the Unwoven Coadjutor. Infernals actually get a new Background for this; each level adds a new bonus (from a free specialty to a +2 to all Perception rolls and +4 to Join Battle rolls).

----------------------------------------------------

What qualifies as "failure" for the purpose of Infernal Exaltation?
Why is "failure" (something the Yozi don't fully understand) required?

Failure occurs when a potential Solar doesn't meet his destiny, if he turns coward and runs when he should have stood tall or otherwise ignores or avoids his opportunity for greatness. Many die, those that don't have to live with a very obvious failure upon them and that's when the Yozi-sent demon makes an offer to achieve that greatness.

Basically failure occurs when either the chosen individual doesn't accept the invitation or dies first. Or occasionally when he or she proves to be unworthy during the initiation phase and is terminated before he can screw up or rebel. Each Infernal is eventually taken down to Malfeas to meet with his Yozi and be introduced to the other Infernals, but you usually get a few days or weeks to give into your vices and tear shit up first to deepen the corruption.

So Achilles refuses to go to Troy, decides to hang out on the beach, die old, fat and happy... but when the reality that he's given up everlasting glory truly starts to set in, up shows a demon with an offer?

or

The echo of his friends' encouragements lingering in his ears, Skywalker hesitates in taking his shot - which rebounds off the Death Star's hull. As the ricochet blows a smoking hole through the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon, instantly incinerating its two occupants, Luke watches the arcing energies of the Empire's greatest war machine obliterate Yavin IV, destroying the Rebel Alliance and any hope for freedom in the galaxy... unless he listens to the new voice that has emerged in his mind, one from a whole new kind of Force...

You could also say Anakin's failure to save his family would be a good example, with Palatine playing the part of an Akuma servant fairly effectively.

Sure, there is no rule saying you can't kick the ever-living crap outta the demon. If it dies the shard goes free and back into Lillun presumably. Or into you, being right there and worthy and having just slain a demon with your awesomeness, perhaps. People who failed are theoretically easier to corrupt than brilliant champions of awesomeness. Less willing to argue and more likely to be grateful...at least to start with.

Can you turn an Infernal into an Abyssal?
The monstrance shatters to pieces. Do not pass go, do not go Abyssal.

THE YOZIS and their PATRONAGE
The Yozis are not misunderstood, falsely maligned, nice people. They are monsters. They're interesting, multifaceted monsters, with complex personalities capable of expressing beauty and kindness. But at the end of the day, they are still monsters. To the extent that they care about people, they are motivated to punish them for forcing the Yozis to care in the first place.

The Ebon Dragon kinda keeps the details of the plan (of escape) to himself, the main goal is for the Infernals to find a way to release their masters. However, the Yozi's are mostly impotently thrashing in the prison, the Infernals are just another in a long line of plans which are likely doomed to failure because releasing the Yozi's is impossible and most are just happy to tear up creation in a bit of petty revenge. But this time they used Exalted, with free will, and as everyone knows doing the impossible is pretty much what they do.

Each Yozi has their own agenda, but most are all about releasing themselves, and since you can get charms outside your personal Yozi its best to take those polite suggestions when they are given, but I get the impression that direct interference is rare, free will and brainwashing towards the Yozi's goals is more the standard practice.

----------------------------------------------------

Malfeas is all about defense, smashing thing and blowing shit up. Plus anger, divine right and such.
A plot seed: Exaltation cannot be destroyed. And if Exaltations can't be destroyed, what happened to the Exaltations of the gods killed during the Primordial War, who turned against each other? (We see them again.) Malfeas was the one who destroyed the gods in question.

Cecelyne is about sand, desolation, and has a number of prayer and worship charms

She Who Lives in Her Name is about Order, transcendence, analysis, and patterns.

Adorjan is about movement, freedom, melee combat and the joy of violence and inflicting harm, and wind.
Adorjan joined up because she wanted to scour creation in revenge, and she's powerful enough and willing to join with the Ebon Dragon, which only four Yozi were at the beginning. She's still a huge pain in the ass to negotiate with.

Ebon Dragon
is manipulation, corruption, ranged attacks, darkness, and being a magnificent bastard.
There's a lurid description of what the Ebon Dragon's tongue does.
On the subject of good high-Essence Charms from DotFA, the book states (in its roundabout but very clear way) that the Ebon Dragon's endgame involves one of the Empress' Heritage (or is at Ancestry? you know the keyword) charms.
He pretty much the only Yozi who wasn't driven batshit insane when they were imprisoned. Its difficult to corrupt the embodiment of darkness and corruption. He's also the biggest jackass among the Yozis, since the rest of them would free all of their comrades given the chance and he'd be more than willing to escape, point and laugh and turn creation into the Ebon Dragon version of Disneyland.

"The Ebon Dragon is among the greatest liars in history, surpassed only by those Exalted who call themselves heroes."

----------------------------------------------------

To what extent are the Yozis being portrayed as the kind of beings you could talk to, argue with, interact with, etc?
Are they basically bigger, badder, crazier Deathlords, or are they more mad bad unknowable forces of unnature?

Both-and, not either-or.

How particular are the Yozis about their servants? With Abyssals, there's a sense that they are hand picked (even if they are hand-picked from a select group of people). Are Infernals hand-picked, or do they wind up the demon/chrysalis-to-be and set it loose in Creation?
The protochrysalis is sent to a specific person and if they're not interested, o well, so much for that mission. Though I see no reason why they couldn't be sent with more general instructions.

How much to Infernals know about their connection with the Yozis and the degree to which they can reshape their "masters" through their actions, experiences, and learning new charms?

I think the implication is that everyone does know, but of course I could be in error on that.

THE INFERNALS - YOUR CHARACTERS
Details to follow, but the castes are: Slayers, Malefactors, Defiles, Scourges, and Fiends. Their Limits are based off of their Yozi Patron.

No Great Curse, they suffer Torment instead.
Examples include:
Cecelyne sends razorsharp sand to hurt you and anything you love she doesn't approve off (Your essence dice in lethal damage).
Loosing your ability to empathize with mortals for a day, and having this be contagious.
Loosing all moral restraint, and having this effect be contagious.

Favored Abilities? Yes, standard five plus five caste abilities.
Favored Charms? Since charms aren't based on Abilities, apparently you have your Patron Yozi and a Favored Yozi.

How loud is the demon voice in the head? Is it a voice or an impulse? Can it "snitch" to the boss?
Its a background, usefulness depends on your level. At the lowest level your demon is either very quiet or constantly talking so you always ignore it. Limit/Torment is a measure of how much you've pissed off the Yozis, no snitching required. You gain limit by acting against your highest virtue, spending willpower to resist unnatural mental influence and by acting contrary to your Urge.

Your one of the most powerful beings in creation and your on the wrong side. Your mind and soul have been warped by demons and their masters, your trying to hold onto your last bits of compassion and humanity without pissing off the Yozi's too much. They usually don't mind unless you go against them. Demons are your only allies and every other thing in creation that knows what you are wants to kill you. And its all your fault for having a moment of weakness and accepting the deal. It rather sucks to be you.

Exalted sometimes suffers from this thing where the bad guys sometimes really, really look and act the part. How "eeeevil" are Infernals in look, style, and culture? If I'm an Infernal, would I have to be deluding myself to pretend I haven't fallen in with some bad folks? If an Infernal wants to make a deal with me, am I deluding myself if I believe that he's not a villain?

Depends on the Infernal, if you have demonic arms sprouting out, scaly skin and a glowing red eyes...fairly evil. Obviously when your in Malfeas your probably all "eviled" up to fit in, nobody wants to be in Malfeas and have people think your a potential traitor. In creation? Subtle corrupter and infiltrators are as common as rampaging monsters.

Life in Malfeas?

Yeah, they get some really posh digs, like a townhouse for every Infernal in a really exclusive (like, not even unaffiliated Yozis are allowed to enter) neighborhood, with trendy cafes and theatres and stuff moved in. Hell's Nightclub has probably set up shop there.

Casual mention of libraries containing forgotten knowledge of First Age, the "caste" system by which demons and greater being are organized in hell, the Conventicle Malfeasant, the Yozi's and the parts of the city composed of them, it paints a very vivid picture leaving you wanting more.

Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas Empty Re: Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas

Mensaje por Maese Mateo Vie Mar 20, 2009 8:31 pm

THE INFERNAL CASTES
Slayer
(Dawn) - Chosen of Malfeas, the Wicked City
Marking: Two crossed swords
Sorcery: Damaging spells do 1.5x the normal amount - but they cannot cast spells that produce calm or peace.
Anima: Standard Dawn fear-effect
Signature: Cearr (big axe dude), rampaging in the Far East

Malefactor (Zenith) - Chosen of Cecelyne, the Endless Desert
Marking: Hourglass
Sorcery: Spells that summon, bind and banish reduce their costs by 10 motes, 1 WP (minimum 5 motes, 1 WP) - but they can never create food, potable water, or create/manipulate wood as a primary effect.
Anima: Once per day, a Malefactor can sacrifice a sentient being to Cecelyne. Spend one mote, and roll Charisma+Performance, difficulty (7-victim's Essence, minimum 1). If successful, an unholy area dedicated to the Yozi is created (radius 100 yards/success), with imaginable consequences. Also, their anima allows them to add (Essence) lethal and bashing soak against all holy creatures (gods, non-akuma Solars, and any creature who knows any Charm with the Holy keyword), and can add (Essence) damage dice when successfully attacking said creatures.
Signature: Sulumor, the Wan Stravrophore (the demon nun), embeded amongst the Southern Dune People attempting to build a massive Yozi Cult. In a comic, Nun-Malefactor sows corruption in the realm and her story ends with her trying to ensure a civil war.

Defiler (Twilight) - Chosen of She Who Lives In Her Name
Marking: Third Eye
Sorcery: Spells that override another's free will, beliefs, or memories have their cost reduced by 10 motes and one willpower (minimum 5 m, 1 WP). In exchange, any Emerald or Sapphire spells that have a main purpose of inflicting damage cost an extra 1 WP to cast.
Anima: Same as Twilight Anima - difference being that they surround themselves with spheres of Essence resembling one of the 99,997 globes of She Who Lives In Her Name.
Signature: Bitter Copal (crab-mummy), in the West working with the Lintha, wielding his custom helltech "fourfold demon arm"

Scourge (Night) - Chosen of Adorjan, the Silent Wind
Marking: Blood Red Circle
Sorcery: Spells that accelerate journeys (directly; not through summoning crafts or beings to help) cost 0 WP to cast. However, any spell that attacks or imposes harm beyond close-combat range cost an extra WP.
Anima: As Nights, they can mute their animas. They may also spend 5 motes to render themselves completely silent for up to one scene, adding their permanent Essence in automatic successes for any Stealth rolls involving silence. Finally, a Scourge can spend 10 motes and greate a zone of perfect silence extending (Essence) yards from their person. No mundane sound can be heard from within, unless the Scourge wants it.
Signature: Captain Gyrfalcon (pirate) - Swashbuckling Northern sky pirate. In one of the comics he leads an airship full of demon soldiers in an attack against an excavation site and finds a giant metal dragon buried there.

Fiend (Eclipse) - Chosen of the Ebon Dragon
Marking: Black Disk
Sorcery: Any spell that manipulates shadows/darkness, dampens light, or uses reflections has its cost reduced by 10 motes and one willpower (minimum 5 m, 1 WP). No spell that generates "meaningful illumination" can ever be cast by such a sorceror, though.
Anima: As with Eclipses, they may sanctify oaths; they may also negate Eclipse/Moonshadow oaths as discussed earlier. The only exception is the surrender oaths of the Yozi. Fiends can learn Charms of other Exalted types or spirits, as long as they have a tutor. Finally, they have diplomatic immunity in the Wyld, the Underworld, and Malfeas; should any Fiend be foolish enough to approach the spirit realm/Yu-Shan, though, they will likely be killed on sight (and once they're recognized for what they are).
Signature: Manosque Cyan (la blue girl) - Infiltrating Realm from within as Scion of House Nellens in Deliberative. Art depicts her pinning Mnemon against a wall with multiple blades.

GENERIC CHARM INFO
Remember that once a Yozi teaches an Infernal a charm any Infernal can learn it, so once things are out of the box they stay that way. Malfeas is very reluctant to give Infernals an opening for betrayal and his charms are mostly centered around the Slayers, hence why despite that many of Malfeas' sub-souls are expert crafters, he has not given such gifts to his Chosen. The building-stuff charms are mostly in the domain of She Who Lives in Her Name.

The Excellencies work as such: the Infernal must purchase the First (Yozi) Excellency a number of times equal to their Essence; ie, a starting character must purchase it twice, and repurchase it every time their Permanent Essence increases. This is balanced out by the fact that the Excellency applies to ANY action. If the action uses only an Ability or an Attribute, then the maximum dice added is (used trait + Essence). Use of the Excellency is based around acting in line with your Yozi patron; the book recommends judging that along the same lines as stunting (that is, if it's cool and makes sense, allow it). Each Yozi also has about 20 keywords in their excellency write-up, so that's 20 ways to act in order to use the Excellency.

The Second (Yozi) Excellency has a prereq of the First Excellency, and can be combined with the First Excellency (adding 2 bonus dice per success).

There is no Third (Yozi) Excellency, as the Yozi "still have difficulty conceptualizing the possibility of failure despite the outcome of the Primordial War."

Infernal Perfect charms work just like regular perfect charms, but with a weakness determined by the Yozi's nature, for example Malfeas' perfect defense only works in an developed area, while Cecelyne only works in a place of devastation. Yes, you can learn the charms of Yozi's outside your caste, in fact you have your Patron and one other Yozi's charms as favored. Any Green Sun Prince can learn any Infernal charm he meets the requirements for.

<BLOCKQUOTE>[Yozi] Inevitability Technique
cost: - Mins: essence 3 type: permanent
keywords: shaping

The infernal may spend an additional willpower to lower the target number of a roll using the first excellency to 6, not cumulative with other target number reducing charms. This is a shaping effect, but of the surrounding world rather than a target (so it can't be defended against in that way). After Essence 7, the Infernal no longer needs to spend Willpower, all rolled actions benefit from the reduced target number automatically.
</BLOCKQUOTE>

Charm 'Evolution':
There are large number of charms that improve other charms and lots of the charms gain more effects as you increase in Essence. Its mostly the Excellencies and Sorcery charms that you may need to buy multiple times. I assume the evolving comment is effects that improve based on your Essence or the charms that improve other charms I mentioned above.

High level charms often have permanent and blasphemous effects twisting you into more demon than human and a thing outside of creation, composed of razor-sharp particles of sand, crimson-hued wind, or living shadow.

Keywords:
Blasphemy sends out a signal that you're an unnatural holy abomination, often resulting in things trying to kill you.
Desecration are shaping charms which cause mutations.
Messianic require a cult background.
Sorcerous can be countered like spells.
Velocity requires the Infernal maintain a minimum speed.

----------------------------------------------------

SPECIFIC CHARM INFO
Each Yozi looks to have both defensive and offensive charms, both social and physical, though their effects and methods are quite different. There are only a few charms at have different options for different Yozi's and those are mostly Excellencies and the Sorcery charms, and its very simple, you use whichever one applies to the situation at hand. The only crying and screaming occurs when you realize you only bought a perfect defense that works in cities and that nasty Solar circle has tricked you into a desert.

MALFEAS, THE WICKED CITY
Malfeas charms can only use their perfect defense in areas "deliberately developed for habitation and use" and can tell when they cross the line between "safe" and "unsafe" areas, since Malfeas is the Demon City and all. Excellencies when they choose "overkill".

<BLOCKQUOTE>On the Free Will front: there's a Malfeas Charm that lets you (always, all the time) treat all mental influence phrased as commands as unacceptable orders. "It is," after all, "inconceivable that another could hold authority over Malfeas, no matter what oaths spilled from his mouth in momentary forgetfulness of his omnipotence." Have I mentioned how much I love Neph's one-liners?
</BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE>Green Sun Nimbus Flare
Cost: 3m Mins: Essence 2 Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-ok, Obvious
Duration: Instant

You may enhance your physical attacks with a target Essence or less yards away. If the attack inflicts any damage, the Charm inflicts two additional levels of unsoakable lethal damage.
</BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE>Wrath-stroked Bonfire Soul
Essence 4 Type: permanent

Green Sun Nimbus Flare now does Essence in level levels of damage, rather than 2L. This damage is aggrevated against gods. At Essence 6+ they are aggrevated against everyone and some nasty thematic effects in that the twisted corpses left behind mummify and do not decay, no natural animal willing to consume it.
</BLOCKQUOTE>

CECELYNE, THE ENDLESS DESERT
Cecelyne's perfect charms work in places of devastation and desolation.
Cececlyne's charms are based around her nature as the Endless Desert; some charms allow you to see demons that have passed through her; others allow Infernals to increase or decrease environmental penalties; several work like, for lack of a better description from my sleep-addled brain (so take it with a grain of salt, please), twisted worship charms, allowing Infernals to grant people their desires.

<BLOCKQUOTE>And as for a couple of Charms, one along those twisted worship lines that I like is "Verdant Emptiness Endowment". To use it, the Infernal or Akuma has to hear the target express dislike of their current state and "desire for some improvement of natural aptitude or training, such as beauty or skill with a sword". By activating the Charm, the Infernal causes the target to increase by one dot in the Attribute, Ability, or specialty that best applies to their wish. At any point in the future, though, the Infernal can come back and demand one possible task from the person. If they cease working towards said task for one day, they suffer botches equal to the Infernal's Essence (as though they broke an Eclipse oath).
</BLOCKQUOTE>

And one basic Charm (that acts as a prereq for many other charms):

<BLOCKQUOTE>Transcendant Desert Creature
Cost: --; Minimums: Essence 2; Type: Permanent
Infernals who learn this charm gain the following as permanent enhancements:
-No negative effects from exposure to places of desolation, including penalties, env. damage, and even visual penalties
-Any foraging rolls with a difficulty of 4+ have a difficulty of 1 (though it does not make impossible rolls possible)
-Total starvation/thirst penalties have a maximum of 3
-All mundane attempts to track the character automatically fail with 0 successes, unless the character wishes otherwise. Magical tracking suffers a penalty of (character's Essence).
-Add the character's Essence to the difficulty of Awareness rolls to notice him when in a place of physical desolation. The character can turn this on and off at will.
</BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE>Soul-Sand Devil Shintai
Cost: - Min: Essence 4; Type: Permanent

You become naturally dematerialized and composed of a billion jagged pieces of sand. He no longer needs air just essence, or food, but he still hungers. Greater levels of Cult migrate some of these difficulties. he may manifest by spending one mote reflexively for communication purposes. he gains the Materialize charm (building a body with [Willpower+essence]x5 motes.
</BLOCKQUOTE>

SHE WHO LIVES IN HER NAME
Excellencies only apply when they are acting in a manner befitting of their Patron (ie, those who serve She Who Lives In Her Name get it when they analyze and use the most efficient methods). What are her charms like in general? Telekinesis, building stuff, reversing shaping effects, All Encompassing Sorcerers Sight and Wyld Shaping equivalents, force shield, force wall, flying force shield, healing.

Ascendant Objectivity Stance is the Shintai form equivalent, you summon a shard of crystal to fly around on, raining terror upon your foes.

ADORJAN, THE SILENT WIND

<BLOCKQUOTE>Scarlet Rapture Shintai
12m and1wp
Min: essence 4
Type: extra action
Keywords: combo-basic, form-type, obvious
Duration: one action (instant0

The exalted turns into a gust of crimson-hued wind. He gains two actions without multiple action penalties, ignoring Rate and imposing a total DV penalty equal to the highest penalty for either action. Ranged attacks may not be included.

You may use a dynamic combo with any charm that could normally be activated as part of a combo with it. The combo still costs one willpower

Scarlet Rapture Shintai only costs three motes if the character activates it on his last action tick.
A second purchase at Essence 5 increases the number of actions and charms in the combo to three.
A third purchase at Essence 6 increases it to four.
</BLOCKQUOTE>

THE EBON DRAGON

<BLOCKQUOTE>Black Mirror Shintai
You eat a targets shadow and become an exact mirror of him in every way, your appearance and traits change to match except your Motivation and Intimacies are now the antithesis of the target. You are then assumed to about and ruin his life in whatever fun ways you can imagine, your no longer detectable as an Infernal to any magical senses, etc. You become an exact copy of someone else, right down to their Charms, Breeding, Virtues, Fate, everything. There's only one difference - your Motivation and Intimacies become the exact opposite of theirs, and you're a Creature of Darkness by default. Note that it's a limited duration. You can make it last longer if you have higher Essence.</BLOCKQUOTE>

Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas Empty Re: Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas

Mensaje por Maese Mateo Vie Mar 20, 2009 8:33 pm

HELLTECH
So you Exalted, figured out your patron, caste and charms and now want to wield something badass?

There's an acid which is the only element native to malfeas. This is used to "corrupt" other materials making them essentially magic materials. This is not the only source of artifacts however, just one method incase you want to "convert" items from a previous incarnation (for example).

They are corrupted versions of artifact weapons, probably both forged for older artifact weapons and freshly made. Your family sword could be reforged with Viriol I'd imagine, but would be a lesser weapon because of its size and such compared to artifact weapons. From my reading of the forging of Infernal weapons section you could use an ordinary sword as a base, corrupting with Viriol and infusing with a demon to produce a weapon. And there is a section on corrupting other magic materials so I don't know why you couldn't create an unholy mockery of your previous incarnations daiklaive that drips vile acids and consumes all it touches. I mean, its probably easier to forge from raw materials, but it didn't seem like it has to be.

For clarification, most infernal relics are forged from the materials of malfeas, demon flesh and bone, black rocks, strange metals, smoke, shadow, green fire, that sort of thing, but there's a section on corrupting magical materials and Viriol can corrupt most anything. All of them have a demon infused into them permanently.

Caustic Weapons have +2 damage and half hardness
Shadow Weapons have +2 parry DV and opponents suffer a -2 external penalty to Parry DV against its attacks
Acid Rime Weapons have +1 accuracy, damage and defense, and an explode in a shower of acid effect when parried or with extra successes on the attack roll doing 2L unsoakable acid damage that ignores hardness and corrodes non-magical weapons and armor.

Artifact-wise, Shattered Crystal Blades are made from the remains of the spheres She Who Lives in Her Name shattered against creation long ago. The different weapon enhancements like Acid-Rime weapon, Shadow Weapon, and Caustic-Weapon are neat.

----------------------------------------------------

Hellstriders are a cool way of doing warstriders without having every Infernal having a whole legion of them since materials (well, demon-flesh) and knowledge really aren't limiting factors in hell. Instead they require the bound soul of a demon of appropriate level, with only a few third circle Hellstriders existing. Hellstriders are like warstriders forge from the materials of hell with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd circle demon bound into it; therefore they have a Limit and potential to act outside of the characters commands.

There are a few Hellforged Wonders listed with a Sapient demon inside including Scorn, an malevolent daiklaive and the Wedding Band of the Scarlet Bride, an N/A level artifact that gives you access to all the charms of the Ebon Dragon you qualify for plus some other benefits.

A list of a few more:
Heart-Song Instrument
Path-Carving Boats
Shadowlight Caul
Brass-Thread Mycelium
Barrier Sands
Emerald Fire Latern
Hell-Weather Clock
Guide to the Prison Gates
Key to the Infernal Gates
The Scarlet Bridge
Infernal Prayer Strips

----------------------------------------------------

I'm not going to go to in depth on the Prayer Strips since they are fairly complicated in background and setup function, but essentially you make a deal with a Yozi, seal it into a strip of demonflesh and blood ink and cast it as a one shot effect. There are four examples given:
Infernal Hospitality - Opens a portal to the Yozi's domain in Malfeas where the caster is treated to the Demon Princes Hospitality for a day.
Minion-Calling - which summons a demon of the first circle
Unfurling Road - creates a road of black stone, extending from the casters feet.
Rain of Glass - molten glass rains down on your opponents.

The Grafts, especially the tainted Lunar tatoos neat. I love Fourfold-Demon Arm, because who doesn't want an arm that's turns into normal hand, tentacles, claws, or whatever.

----------------------------------------------------

So you want to physically change?

There a lot of minor alterations and transformation charms, growing brass armor and the like, and then there are the Shintai charms:

Also note that when you are Chosen, you can acquire traits from the demon that carried your Exaltation to you - basically giving you room for a Blood Ape's red fur, a Neomah's skin, or other sorts of Mutations. Mutations are just like Wyld mutations, with a few more added to the list. There are some training and enlightening charms, many have to do with your worshipers or deals with the devil type stuff, I'll find some specific examples in a bit.

Green Sun Tattoos

The Yozi's have discovered the secret of the Lunar tattoos from studying Lunar Akuma...and others who have wandered into their claws. The silver tattoos take on a green sheen and protect the wearer from environmental hazards in the demon city as well as the wyld.

Demon Ink Tattoos

Made from a Demon's living essence they give the possessor a three dot speciality in something favored by the demon the essence came from, the two dot version adds one dot to three different abilities or two dots to a single ability, and a three dot tattoo adds a single dot to three attributes or two dots to one attribute plus the benefits of a one and two dot tattoo.

SUMMONING
The spell Slave-Spawn Summons and its second and third circle equivalents are similar to Demon of the X Circle with a few different restrictions and bonuses. Most notably third-circle demons can be summoned at sunset on the night of a new moon OR calibration.

You can summon them at times others others normally couldn't, and quicker:

For the first circle, instantly at sunset.
For the second circle, instantly at twilight under a moonless sky.
For the third circle, half of a moonless night, and the demon is not bound.
Only the Ebon Dragon (or the homebrewed Yozi of your choice, obviously) teaches Necromancy; it's totally inimical to Yozic nature.

Infernals are favored sons, not like Solars who overthrew the primortials. Worst thing likely to happen is you get smacked around a bit for summoning Octavion when he was on the can.

AKUMA
Dragonblooded Akuma can learn CMA without an enlightenment charm or a roll to activate.
Lunar Akuma can learn SMA with a Sidereal tutor.
Solar's can learn SMA without a Sidereal teacher but from anyone who knows them.
The Green Sun Princes can only learn up to CMA - largely because your Essence has already been twisted (to synch with the Yozis) too far to further-warp it for SMA, and also because many Yozi Charms resemble SMA effects as is.

----------------------------------------------------
A Sacred Vow:
When you become an Akuma, you take a sacred vow: such-and-such a thing is my highest goal in life, and I shall become as a weapon to accomplish it. It doesn't really strike me as the sort of thing you'd do for the power to accomplish other things, but your change may vary. After reading the relevant section I like to think of becoming an akuma as swearing an oath to accomplish a certain mission and finding your whole self reorganized, by your own devotion, so you can do that. But I imagine other interpretations are possible.

Now, the Investor gets to reprogram the petitioner's personality at the moment of Investment, and can give things like "always obey my Yozi," but they can also include compulsions that the Yozis cannot override (because the Yozis, after all, might be summoned by Jupiter or the Sun at any moment.) For example, the Blood Queen is charged with ending the worship of Ahlat. Even if the Yozi who commissioned her changes Its mind - maybe Ahlat's joined the Loyalists, who knows - It can't tell her to stop. It's in her nature. The Urges are never minor: they're like a Motivation on steroids. Of course it's possible to do good as an akuma, but it would be have to be because your Urge, not in spite of it.

If she fulfills her mission, yeah - like if the Blood Queen ends all worship of Ahlat, they can recall her and assign her a new mission. But not otherwise, is my impression, or the whole point of not being able to override core missions would be kind of moot. To rewire an Akuma's Urge, you have to put it through Investiture of Infernal Glory again. That requires its consent.

And even if you have an Urge like "always obey the Sea That Marched Against the Flame," that hardly means you have no existence of your own. You still have hopes and dreams and doubts and feelings. You just won't ever want to disobey an order from Kimbery, inasmuch as she's giving them to you. You gain power. You lose your free will, your soul, and your humanity, either upfront or in bits and pieces. Akuma can learn Infernal charms, sorcery and the like, plus a few special things of their own, but they are oathbound to the will of the Yozis.

----------------------------------------------------

Akuma vs Infernals
Akuma are often used as mouthpieces for the Yozi as are cultists.
Infernals are generally over Akuma. Akuma are only jealous if their masters let them be.

In a way this makes Akuma a lot more attractive - they acquire a sort of nobility in their self-sacrifice and vows, wishing to reshape themselves to achieve some task. Infernals are petty fuck-ups given a second chance. Akuma can also be created with behaviors that the Yozis cannot override, whereas the Infernals seem to be watched over more for possibility of betrayal.

----------------------------------------------------

The First Akuma is gone into detail and is the one who designed Infernal Monster Style - his name is Gorol.

The oldest akuma was Gorol, who was responsible for creating the Neverborn Abhorrence of Life, who you'll recall is now the Dowager's patron. Realizing what he'd done, he vowed to prevent the deaths of any more Primordials, and served as an undercover agent for them, arguing for Gaia's pleas for clemency in the Deliberative. Studying everything he could about the prison, Malfeas transformed him into an akuma, rearranging him from a spy into an engine of brute force to tear down the prison walls. But the new guy was too obvious - the usurpers came, blasted him to all Hell, and created a shadowland in the process. He was last seen serving as an emissary to the Neverborn, though no one's seen him in a couple centuries.
Gorol was very explicitly not an akuma - he was an akuma-analogue to the King of Primordials. It's a subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless.

The highest charm in Infernal Monster Style can shatter oaths made by any being with Essence equal too or less than the Exalted, and its postulated that an Essence 10 infernal could shatter the oaths binding the Yozi's. (Hellboy fist strike!)

The text of the charm states that the Martial Artist has to strike the individual bound by the oath and then takes on the burden for breaking the oath himself. So I reason that no Yozi has been willing to sacrifice themselves to break the bonds of another Yozi, plus the oaths the Yozi swore would seem to keep them from directly using it to free themselves.

a) Al Gremio ¿Scroll of Merchants? ya hubo un Manacle and Coin

Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas Empty Re: Exalted: Infernals y Direction: Malfeas
