Spoiler: Martial Arts / Brawl
Este spoiler es... increiblemente alucinante.
John Mørke escribió:Over the last year, people have repeatedly asked for clarification on seemingly contradictory statements. You have learned that Brawl will return in EX3, but that the Ability spread is staying the same. Both true facts, but a bit confusing. Noting that this is still content under construction and subject to change, here is the explanation:
In EX3, your Martial Arts score will denote your aptitude with a select number of Martial Arts styles. It will also cover, separately, a character's ability to use instinctual mastery of improvised violence with no tradition or technical structure, otherwise known as Brawl. Brawl Charms are separate from Martial Arts Charms and will not combine with them unless explicitly stated.
Characters using Brawl as well as actual Martial Arts styles may require specific, beneficial merits. Characters using Brawl are thought to have a Brawl rating; characters using martial arts are thought to have a Martial Arts rating: for example, the preying mantis has a Martial Arts rating, while the Tyrant Lizard uses Brawl.
Further Martial Arts styles are attached to Archery, Melee, and Thrown, with some styles requiring a combined (Combat Ability) + Martial Arts, while others are completely exclusive to their own Ability.
Lastly, Martial Arts Charms and Techniques (yes, a new kind of Martial Art mechanic) will not cost experience points, but will rather require you to accrue Style Points. The special methods for accumulating Style Points will be thoroughly detailed in the EX3 core.
Re: Spoiler: Martial Arts / Brawl

@John/Holden, how many charms are there usually in 3E Martial Arts trees?John Mørke escribió:That's going to remain a secret for now. Expect the classic Charms with a few new twists.
John Mørke escribió:What a division of the Martial Arts Ability from other combat Abilities gives you is freedom from these ideals, not ignorance of them. Solar Melee Charms do not exist in any sort of a style, they are not universally on record or on tap; you can learn them as a matter of intuition. You don't need a mentor or a scroll and you are not limited to a form weapon (and a form weapon requires the correct stance* to use it 100% of the time, which means every regular attack you roll adheres to the slashing, stabbing, striking techniques of the style). Melee has none of these limitations, so that you can interpret it any way you want to. You can completely remove the mysticism component, the style and tradition component, and treat the techniques as something you came up with, and because the Charms do not adhere to form weapon rules nor do they rely on Form charms, you can fight with no stance or any stance, you can slash in any direction or in any way. You can be all forms, no form, one form. The non MA Charms are whatever you want them to look like and wherever you want them to come from.
